Aaron Siskind

Aaron Siskind (1903-1991) was an American photographer known for his abstract photographs that captured the details and textures of everyday objects. Born in New York, Siskind was originally a teacher before he discovered his love for photography in the 1930s. He was a member of the New York Photo League and later became a prominent member of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Siskind's photographs often focused on the shapes and patterns created by peeling paint, cracks in pavement, and other mundane objects, which he transformed into striking and poetic images through his use of close-up and cropping techniques. His work had a significant impact on the development of abstract photography in the 20th century, and he is considered one of the most important American photographers of the postwar period.
