Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) was an Italian painter of the Venetian School and is renowned for his cityscapes of Venice, which were characterized by their delicate use of color and light. He was born into an artistic family, with his father and brothers also being painters. Guardi trained under his older brother, Gian Antonio, before branching out on his own to develop his unique style.Guardi's early works were heavily influenced by the Baroque style, but he later adopted a looser brushstroke and lighter color palette that was more in line with Rococo sensibilities.
