Francois Boucher

Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a French Rococo artist known for his charming and graceful depictions of mythological and pastoral scenes. Born in Paris, he apprenticed with his father, who was a lace designer, before studying with the prominent artist Francois Lemoyne. Boucher went on to become a favored artist of King Louis XV and was appointed as the first painter of the king's mistress, Madame de Pompadour. His works are characterized by their delicate brushwork, soft pastel colors, and playful subject matter. Boucher's oeuvre includes paintings, drawings, prints, and designs for tapestries and porcelain. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture and left a lasting influence on the decorative arts of his time.
