Collection: Gentile da Fabriano

Gentile da Fabriano (c. 1370-1427) was an Italian painter known for his decorative and sumptuous style that combined Gothic and Renaissance elements. Born in Fabriano, he worked in various cities throughout Italy, including Venice, Florence, and Rome. In 1409, he was commissioned by the pope to paint a fresco cycle in the chapel of the Vatican Palace. One of his most famous works is the altarpiece "Adoration of the Magi," which he painted for the Strozzi Chapel in Florence. The painting showcases his expertise in richly detailed, colorful depictions of clothing, architecture, and landscapes. Gentile's style had a significant influence on later Renaissance artists, particularly in his use of decorative elements and attention to detail.
