Collection: Georges Lemmen

Georges Lemmen was a Belgian artist associated with the Neo-Impressionist movement. Born in Brussels in 1865, Lemmen initially trained as an engraver before attending the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In the 1880s, he became interested in the theories of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac and began experimenting with Pointillism. Lemmen's paintings feature a characteristic technique of small dots of color that merge together to create a cohesive image. In addition to painting, Lemmen also worked as an illustrator and designer, creating posters and book covers. He was a founding member of the avant-garde art group Les XX, which sought to promote innovative and progressive art. Lemmen died in Brussels in 1916 at the age of 50, leaving behind a body of work that exemplifies the principles of Pointillism.
