Collection: Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) was an Italian artist, architect, and engraver known for his influential and imaginative works in the Rococo and Neoclassical styles. Born in Venice, Piranesi moved to Rome as a young man and began creating intricate engravings of the city's ancient ruins and architecture, which garnered him international recognition. He also became known for his skillful depictions of fantastical architectural designs and scenes, inspired by his interest in ancient Roman art and architecture. Piranesi's works were widely popular and influential, inspiring artists and architects across Europe. In addition to his artistic career, he was also involved in architectural projects and worked as a restorer of ancient Roman artifacts. Today, Piranesi is recognized as one of the most important and influential artists of his time, and his legacy continues to inspire artists and architects around the world.
