Ilya Mashkov

Ilya Mashkov (1881-1944) was a Russian painter and one of the founding members of the avant-garde movement known as "Jack of Diamonds." He was born in Moscow and studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he later taught. Mashkov's work was influenced by Fauvism and the bright colors of Russian folk art. He is known for his still life paintings, which often depict fruit and flowers arranged in a dramatic and dynamic composition. Mashkov's bold use of color and strong brushwork became an important influence on the development of Russian modernism. In addition to his work as a painter, Mashkov was also a set designer for the Moscow Art Theatre. He died in Moscow in 1944.
