Jacques Debat-Ponsan

Jacques Debat-Ponsan (1847-1913) was a French painter who specialized in historical and genre scenes. He studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1877 to 1913, receiving numerous awards. Debat-Ponsan's style was influenced by the academic tradition, but he also incorporated elements of realism and naturalism into his work. He often depicted everyday life, particularly of the lower classes, and his paintings were characterized by their attention to detail and use of warm colors. Some of his most famous works include "The Sewing Lesson," "The Game of Billiards," and "The Sad Lesson." Debat-Ponsan's works can be found in major museums throughout the world, including the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
