Joaquin Sorolla

Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923) was a Spanish painter known for his luminous and colorful impressionist-style paintings. He was born in Valencia, Spain, and began studying art at the age of 14. Sorolla's early work consisted of historical and social realism, but he later transitioned to plein air painting and capturing the effects of light and color. He was influenced by the works of Velazquez, Goya, and the French Impressionists. Sorolla became a member of the prestigious Salon de Paris and exhibited his work throughout Europe and the United States, where he gained widespread recognition. His paintings often depicted beach scenes, landscapes, and portraits of the upper classes. Sorolla's use of light and color, combined with his skillful brushwork, made him one of the most successful Spanish painters of his time.
