Xul Solar (1887-1963) was an Argentine painter, sculptor, and writer. He was born in San Fernando, Argentina, and his real name was Oscar Agustín Alejandro Schulz Solari. He chose the pseudonym Xul Solar as a combination of the words "Xul" meaning "spirit" in ancient Mayan and "Solar" meaning "sun" in Spanish.Xul Solar was a self-taught artist, and his work was strongly influenced by European modernism and Eastern philosophy. He created a unique visual language that combined elements of surrealism, abstraction, and metaphysics.Xul Solar's art was often focused on the creation of imaginary worlds and the exploration of spiritual and mystical themes. His works are characterized by bright colors, complex symbolism, and intricate details.Despite being relatively unknown during his lifetime, Xul Solar's art has gained recognition in recent years for its innovative style and unique vision. Today, he is considered one of the most important Latin American artists of the 20th century.
