Collection: Abraham van Strij

Abraham van Strij (1753-1826) was a Dutch painter and watercolorist. He was born in Dordrecht, the son of a book dealer. Van Strij studied art with the local painter Cornelis Kuipers and later in The Hague with Adriaan de Lelie. He became known for his genre scenes, landscapes, and portraits. His early works were influenced by the work of Dutch masters such as Jan Steen and Adriaen van Ostade, but later he developed a more refined and elegant style. Van Strij was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and exhibited his works regularly in Amsterdam and The Hague. His paintings are characterized by their subtle use of color and light, and his portraits are known for their sensitivity and psychological insight. Today, his works can be found in the collections of several Dutch museums, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Dordrechts Museum.
