Alfred Stevens (1823-1906) was a Belgian painter known for his depictions of fashionable women and domestic interiors. Born in Brussels, Stevens studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, where he later became a professor. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent time in Paris, where he befriended Edgar Degas and Édouard Manet.Stevens' paintings often depicted elegant women in fashionable clothing, set in luxurious interiors or outdoor settings. His attention to detail and use of color made his works highly sought after by collectors and art lovers. In addition to painting, Stevens also designed furniture and worked as a decorator, which informed his compositions and use of space in his paintings.Stevens exhibited his work at the Paris Salon and received numerous awards throughout his career. Today, his paintings can be found in major museums and collections around the world.
