Collection: Arthur Segal

Arthur Segal was a Romanian artist who played a key role in the development of modern art in his home country. Born in Iași in 1875, he later moved to Berlin where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was known for his work as a painter, printmaker, and teacher, and was associated with a group of artists known as the "Berlin Secession". Segal's work was heavily influenced by his interest in color theory, and he was one of the first artists to experiment with the use of abstract forms and colors. He also had a strong interest in Romanian folk art and often incorporated elements of traditional Romanian motifs into his work. Segal's career was cut short by his death in 1944 during the Holocaust, but his contributions to the development of modern art in Romania and Germany continue to be celebrated today.
