Canaletto, also known as Giovanni Antonio Canal, was an Italian painter of the 18th century. Born in Venice in 1697, he was the son of a scenic painter, and he initially followed in his father's footsteps by painting theatrical sets. However, Canaletto is best known for his paintings of Venice, which captured the city's unique beauty and architecture.Canaletto's paintings were highly sought after by wealthy patrons, and he received commissions from throughout Europe. He is known for his precision and attention to detail, often using a camera obscura to create accurate depictions of his subjects. Canaletto's work had a profound influence on the development of the veduta genre, or cityscape painting, and he remains one of the most celebrated artists of his time. He died in Venice in 1768.
