Collection: Emily Carr

Emily Carr (1871-1945) was a Canadian artist and writer known for her depictions of the forests and totem poles of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Carr studied art in San Francisco, London, and Paris before returning to Canada to establish herself as an artist. She spent much of her career painting First Nations subjects and landscapes, often incorporating the spirituality of the natural world into her work. In addition to her painting, Carr was a prolific writer, publishing several books about her life and experiences. Despite facing many challenges throughout her life, including poverty and discrimination, Carr is considered one of Canada's most important artists and a pioneer of modernism in Canada.
