Collection: Felicien Rops

Félicien Rops was a Belgian artist and printmaker known for his dark and often erotic imagery. He was born in Namur, Belgium in 1833, and studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He gained fame for his illustrations for the works of Baudelaire, and went on to produce a large body of work including prints, paintings, and book illustrations. His works often explored themes of death, sexuality, and the occult, and he was associated with the Symbolist movement. Despite being known for his risqué subject matter, Rops was highly respected in his time, and his work was collected by many museums and private collectors. He died in 1898, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important and influential Belgian artists of the 19th century.
