Collection: Franz Marc

Franz Marc (1880-1916) was a German painter known for co-founding the Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) group, a circle of artists who sought to break free from traditional art conventions. Marc's work was heavily influenced by his love of animals and the natural world, which he often portrayed using bold colors and abstract shapes. He was particularly fond of horses, which he believed represented spiritual and emotional freedom. Marc's art was also influenced by his interest in theosophy, a spiritual philosophy that seeks to understand the nature of the universe and humanity's place within it. Unfortunately, Marc's promising career was cut short by his untimely death during World War I at the age of 36. Nonetheless, his legacy as a pioneer of German Expressionism lives on.
