George Frederick Watts (1817-1904) was an English painter and sculptor associated with the Symbolist movement. Born in London, he began his artistic training at the Royal Academy schools and became a prolific artist, producing over 600 paintings and sculptures throughout his career. Watts was known for his allegorical and mythological subjects, as well as his portraits of prominent figures in Victorian society. His works often explored themes of spirituality, mortality, and the human condition. Watts was also involved in the arts community, founding the Artists' Aid Trust and the London Arts League, and he was a close friend of other influential artists and thinkers of his time, including Tennyson and Ruskin. Today, his works can be found in major museums and galleries around the world.
