Collection: Giorgio Vasari

Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) was an Italian painter, architect, and writer who is best known for his masterpiece "The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects," a collection of biographies of Italian Renaissance artists. Born in Arezzo, Vasari studied under the painter Andrea del Sarto and later moved to Florence, where he became a court artist for the Medici family. His works include frescoes in the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, as well as the design for the Uffizi Palace itself. In addition to his artistic achievements, Vasari is considered one of the founders of art history as a discipline. His writings provided a comprehensive overview of the Italian Renaissance and influenced generations of artists and scholars.
