Collection: Goyo Hashiguchi

Goyo Hashiguchi (1880-1921) was a Japanese printmaker and painter of the early 20th century, known for his elegant and sensual depictions of women. He initially trained as a painter in the traditional Japanese style, but later turned to printmaking, and was a key figure in the Shin-Hanga ("new print") movement. His prints often feature women dressed in fashionable Western-style clothing, captured in moments of relaxation or contemplation. Goyo was renowned for his technical skill and attention to detail, producing prints of remarkable beauty and refinement. He was also a prolific painter, creating numerous portraits of women in the same style as his prints. Goyo died at a young age due to illness, but his legacy lived on through the continued popularity of his prints and the Shin-Hanga movement.
