Ion Theodorescu-Sion (1882-1939) was a Romanian painter and teacher who was instrumental in the development of modern art in Romania. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and later in Paris, where he was influenced by the work of Cézanne, Gauguin, and Matisse. Upon returning to Romania, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where he taught for over 20 years.Theodorescu-Sion was a member of the avant-garde art group known as the "Group of the Four," which sought to modernize Romanian art by incorporating elements of Cubism, Fauvism, and other modernist styles. He is known for his colorful landscapes and still lifes, which often feature bold, simplified forms and vivid hues. His work helped to establish modernism as a major force in Romanian art, and he is widely considered to be one of the most important Romanian painters of the 20th century.
