Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano (born 1951) is a self-taught Scottish painter celebrated for his distinctive, film-noir style that captures romantic, nostalgic, and often mysterious moments. Born Jack Hoggan in Fife, Scotland, he adopted his mother's maiden name as his professional moniker. Vettriano's artistic journey began in his early twenties when a girlfriend gifted him a set of watercolor paints. His unique style, characterized by the nostalgic and erotic portrayals of men and women, quickly gained popular acclaim, despite initial criticism from the formal art world. His most iconic piece, "The Singing Butler" (1992), is one of the best-selling images in the contemporary art world, depicting an elegantly dressed couple dancing on a beach. Other notable works include "Dance Me to the End of Love" and "Mad Dogs."
