Collection: Jacob Isaakszoon van Ruisdael

Jacob Isaackszoon van Ruisdael was a Dutch landscape painter of the 17th century, known for his highly detailed and realistic depictions of natural scenes. Born in Haarlem in 1628, Ruisdael was trained in the family business of picture-making and became one of the most respected and successful landscape artists of his time. His works often depicted the Dutch countryside, with its distinctive flat, watery terrain and ever-changing skies. Ruisdael was also known for his dramatic compositions, which often featured tall trees, looming clouds, and dramatic lighting effects. Despite his success, Ruisdael lived a relatively modest life, and little is known about his personal life. He died in Amsterdam in 1682, leaving behind a legacy of breathtaking landscapes that continue to inspire and captivate art lovers today.
