Collection: Jan Matejko

Jan Matejko (1838-1893) was a Polish painter known for his historical and patriotic paintings, which depict important moments in Polish history. Born in Krakow, Matejko studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and later traveled to Munich, Paris, and Vienna to further his education. He gained recognition for his monumental works such as "The Battle of Grunwald" and "The Prussian Homage" which celebrate Polish national heroes and the country's struggle for independence. Matejko was also a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and influenced generations of Polish artists. His work was recognized with numerous awards and medals, and today he is considered one of the most important artists in Polish history.
