Collection: Jean Paul Laurens

Jean Paul Laurens (1838-1921) was a French painter and educator known for his history paintings and realistic style. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Léon Cogniet and won the Prix de Rome in 1861. After completing his studies, he began exhibiting his work at the Salon and became a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1875. Laurens was deeply interested in French history and often painted scenes from the French Revolution and the Middle Ages. He also created numerous portraits and genre scenes throughout his career. His paintings are characterized by their meticulous attention to detail and historical accuracy. Laurens received numerous awards and honors during his lifetime, including the Legion of Honor and membership in the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Today, his works can be found in museums and collections throughout Europe and North America.
