Collection: Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan-Bouveret

Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan-Bouveret was a French painter born in 1852 in Paris. He is known for his realistic and naturalistic style, often depicting everyday rural life in France. He studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was heavily influenced by the Barbizon School. Dagnan-Bouveret gained recognition for his painting "The Pardon in Brittany" which was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1880. He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1892 and was made a member of the Institut de France in 1910. He was also a founding member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1890.Dagnan-Bouveret's paintings often feature religious themes, including his series of large-scale works depicting the life of Christ, exhibited at the Salon in 1890. He died in 1929 in Quincey, France.
