Collection: Pieter de Hooch

Pieter de Hooch was a Dutch painter of the Golden Age who specialized in domestic interior scenes with figures. He was born in Rotterdam in 1629 and spent most of his career in Delft, where he became a member of the painters' guild in 1655. De Hooch's paintings are characterized by their meticulous attention to detail, use of light and shade, and subtle sense of perspective. His works often depict middle-class life in the Netherlands, with women engaged in household activities and children playing in courtyards. De Hooch's paintings were highly prized in his lifetime and continue to be admired for their technical skill and charming subject matter. He died in Amsterdam in 1684.
