Collection: Rembrandt

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was a Dutch painter and etcher who is considered one of the greatest artists in European history. He was born in Leiden, Netherlands, and started his artistic career as an apprentice to a local painter. In 1631, he moved to Amsterdam, where he established himself as a successful artist and opened his own studio.Rembrandt is known for his dramatic use of light and shadow, which became known as "chiaroscuro." He often depicted religious and historical scenes, as well as portraits of himself and his contemporaries. His most famous works include "The Night Watch," "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp," and "Self-Portrait with Two Circles." Despite being a successful artist during his lifetime, Rembrandt fell into financial difficulties later in life and died in relative obscurity. His legacy has endured, however, and his works continue to inspire and influence artists today.
