Collection: Yannoulis Chalepas

Yannoulis Chalepas (1851-1938) was a Greek sculptor known for his emotionally charged, highly expressive works. He was born in Pyrgos, Tinos and studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts before going to Italy to continue his training. Chalepas was influenced by the works of Michelangelo and Rodin, and his sculptures often conveyed a sense of deep melancholy and despair. One of his most famous works is the sculpture "The Dead Child," which he created after the death of his own child. Despite his talent, Chalepas struggled with mental illness throughout his life and was institutionalized for many years. His legacy, however, continues to inspire generations of artists in Greece and beyond.
